What Parents Are Saying
Being a Preschool Teacher, I am often looking for books for my class that promote, teach, and encourage inclusion of different cultures. I love that I was able to add this book to my collection. Not only does it help the reader understand the values and traditions of the Filipino culture, but it also tells the story in the culture’s language and includes English translation. Which, to me, was amazing! Being part of the Filipino-American culture, it was a joy to read an children’s book in another language that I understood other than English.
My students were so excited when I read this book to them because of the fact that it was in Tagalog. It was in a language that some of them have never heard of. For the Fil-Am students who did recognize the language, their faces lit up and they excitedly shouted “My mom and dad knows Tagalog!” It was an easy to read and easy to follow book especially for my preschoolers. My students loved being able to relate to the story about helping out the people around them.
This book does a great job in introducing the Filipino values and language. It allows those in the younger generation of Filipino-Americans to feel included, seen, and represented. I would 100% recommend this book to my fellow teachers.

Tulong Tayo is a great children's book that incorporates Tagalog and English making it perfect for those who are learning either language. Each sentence is written in both Tagalog and English. Tulong Tayo also teaches and encourages children to helpful, by showing examples of ways they can help even as a little child -- this highlights an important aspect of Filipino culture. The illustrations perfectly aid the clear message of the words in the book. Tulong Tayo is overall a great book to have in your home and to share with others.
